ROTC Booster Notes Sept. 19, 2017

Approval of last minutes. Montion by Jessica Wences and all were in favor.

 

Happy Birthday U.S. Air Force!  70 years!

 

Treasurer’s report.  Started with $330.00  made $566.00 from Bull Dogs and Hot Dogs.  Membership was $975.00 for a total of $1,871.00.  Started the year lower than normal to cover money used to pay for Summer Leadership Conference for cadets. 

 

Membership is down so far this year.

 

Fundraising:  BDHD was a success!  Raised $975.00.  Next one is the Pancake breakfast at Waterloo on Spet. 30th.    Cadets serve in uniform.

 

Scholarship:  the Spring 2017 winner has not claimed JROTC scholarship.  All JROTC scholarships that have not been claim one year from the date of announcement, funds go back into general funds.

 

Communication is “remind” and the website; www.bowiejrotc.com   A handout was given to cadets on how to join remind and also one for parents to join the parents flight.

 

Capt. Hill and Msgt. Loyd will review uniforms, competitions, polos, promotions after meeting has adjourned.

Notes for ROTC Booster Oct. 17, 2017

 

In attendance: Deb Powell, Diana Cruz, Capt. Hill, Kareem McCarter, Heather Beatty, Carrie Nelson, Jessica Wences, Jeremy Benarides, Patricia Perez, Ricardo Montoya, Fran Kasper and Suzanne Hensley.  

 

Call to order at 6:37pm.

Approve minutes from last meeting. Carrie Nelson said I, second by Kareem

 

Treasurer report:

We sold 105 tickets for the pancake breakfast and made a profit of $1,223.00. Paid Waterloo a total of $630.00 and we had $523 as a donation.  Current balance is at $1,644.83.

 

Membership:  

we have only 35 families who have joined the booster out of 106 cadets.  Membership is down from last year.  Send reminders to see if we can get more members.

 

Fundraising:  Any non-taxable sales can only run for 2 weeks.

Need a fundraising chair!

*Pancake breakfast made a profit but it's down from last year.  Suggestion

       was to move it to October. Too much going on in September for

parents.  Price of tickets was $12.  

*Pizza sales is in the spring

*What about a chocolate bar sale?

*Next year looking at U.T.  Contract for working the game at the t-shirt

kiosk or concessions.

*Bowie Fight Never Dies t-shirt sales

Vote taken for 3rd fundraiser, t-shirt  Carrie Nelson said I, seconded by Suzanne Hensley.

 

Scholarship:

We have the money.  Last year’s recipient needs to submit name, college attending and college Id to Bowie accountant.  They cut the check directly to the college.

 

Communication:

*trying to get the website up for the cadets to run.

*secretary needs to be able to put the minutes on the website Master Sergeant is in charge of this.

*should be a booster site and update.

*captain says he will update.

 

Open Issues:

*Web/cyber patrol competition coming up will need three 64-bit processors. Dell has a program to donate computers to vet organizations. Need sponsor letter.

 

*Want to set up a scholarship for cadets that can't afford T-shirts etc.

 

*Requested two buses for the vets Veterans Day parade November 11, 2017. Snacks and drinks to be donated.

Freshman wear polos.

Upperclassman wear uniforms.

Seniors wear a B use.

Air Force will pay for all alterations on all uniforms.

 

*No blazer tag.

*Would like to go to Lackland AFB to watch a graduation.

*Would like to go to NASA-would need parent chaperones.

 

*Christmas social December 8 potluck at an officer's house for adults or maybe go to a restaurant.

*Patricia Perez will head up looking at VFW hall for the kids Xmas dance

512–450–3430 !st by Heather Beatty it was seconded by Susanna Hensley.

*Motion on table for future years for the Cadet dance. No heartache for dropping Del Valley from the dance and we can have the dance in the Bowie cafeteria.

Place to be determined time 7 PM

*USS Lexington next year for overnight trip

*Cadets want to work Trail of Lights – they are checking dates.

*New ribbon rack are coming.

*Working on community service projects
